My name is Allen, and I am the founder of the Blocks of Joy Foundation. I really enjoy working in my garage tinkering around and making toys for my grandchildren. Life happens, people move, and I was without a garage for a while. My wife and I bought a house with a garage this year and I really wanted to make some things, but my grandkids are older and not in the same state anymore. I realized though, there are plenty of children around me who might enjoy these kinds of toys, what if I just made them for fun in the garage and donated them to children who needed them. I filed for a business license with the state, navigated the IRS publications, and formed an official non-profit. This year, we will be giving sets of blocks to a hundred children, and I’m thrilled about that!
Volunteerism
Do you like to work in the garage, tinker, make things? If your company provides volunteer time, you can have an opportunity to use corporate volunteer time to work at my Foundation doing exactly what you love. Best part – you can donate the things you build while you are volunteering, and it can be done from anywhere! You don’t have to live in Arizona to volunteer time at my foundation. If you think that’s fun – think about becoming a member so you can donate the product directly to a child in need. Of course, anything you make can be donated to any other organization, it doesn’t have to be us 😊

Where are we?
My foundation is located in the state of Arizona, but that doesn’t mean you have to be. There is no requirement for any member to live in Arizona, nor is there a requirement for anyone to come here to volunteer. The only thing you need to have is a garage, a few tools, and some creativity. The beautiful thing about technology is the ability to create a community of like-minded people without having to be in the same town. I love that anyone can have the opportunity to make a difference no matter where they are on the map.
